Italian Riviera - Santa Margherita, Liguria, Italy

Santa Margherita, Liguria Italy is truly an Authentic Destination. Poised next to Portofino but without the price tag...lots of 3 and 2 star hotels to affordably enjoy. See my pics and recommendations. The Mediterranean bay is absolutely BELLA, and you want to just JUMP IN! We spent the day there today, Highly recommend checking out the Hotels I mentioned, they will take VERY good care of you!
Why Authentic:
Very Quaint bay - beautiful swimming. "A pearl to be discovered". Margarita means "Pearl" not the drink most of us are so familiar with. Very unique Artistic culture - from local artisan paintings, to pottery, to street artisans. The characteristic streets called the "Carrugi" wander parrallel to the sea, with exclusive boutiques & elegant cafes, but also where a swimsuit is the common attire. This is discreet village and although close to Portofino does not get the hordes of "daily touristos". Another Authentic point of Santa Margaherita is the Environmental certification achieved by the village; a sign of great attention and respect for nature, which can be seen on every corner.
Activities:
Promenade of Cervara: A walk to Portofino along a beautiful footbridge Park of Portofino; Take a picnic and walk thru the 30 marked paths to see San Fruttuoso - the abby where a statue of Jesus is in the water. Magic Flute Park - Amusement Park dedicated to Mozart's Magic Flute - great for children Castle - built in 1550 to protect the city against pirate raids. Of course a dip in the Emerald Green sea!
Lodging stayed in:
Great Hospitality at the local Hotels. Where to stay: Hotel Jolanda *** 49 rooms: Ask for Giuseppe (local owner and speaks very good English) Singles from 98 Euros, and Doubles from 164 Euros in high Season. The Jr. Suite or Superior Double is worth the extra coin...see my pictures. Breakfast included, and just minutes from the beach. Jacuzzi & Steam room (2 nice luxuries) Hotel Tigullio & De Milan *** : Singles from 90 Euros to Double fro 135 Euros, but again highly recommend the Superior for just 10 more euros/night @ 145 euros. Modern rooms, internet wonderful restaurant called FishCity with renowned chef. Breakfast is included. Fasche **: This is a smaller hotel, but a good choice for families up to 4 people - they have a family room which includes a king size bed + 2 bunk beds for 200 euros/night. a Little further from the sea, but if budget is your concern they have doubles as low as 124 euros in high season. Breakfast is included. Very friendly, internet/wifi included.
